mom: How can I re-word the “then and only then”???????? I'm stuck.

me: You could just say “only then” , I think that would be fine.

mom: You're so SMAHHHHHHT!!!!!

Have to point out that “only then” is not the same as “then and only then.”

“Only then” indicates a necessary condition;
“Then and only then” indicates a sufficient and necessary condition.

You can’t really reduce the concept expressed by “then and only then”, but you could slightly shorten it by writing “if and only if”.
